Manually Enabling/Disabling Acceleration for Microsoft Outlook / Outlook Express

In certain circumstances it may not be possible to enable mail acceleration via the Automatic tab. If you received a message telling you to manually enable acceleration please follow the procedures outlined below.

Enabling acceleration for Outlook Express Ver 4.X

1) In Outlook Express, select Tools/Accounts

 

2) Select the "Mail" Tab and then the "Properties" button.

3) Select the "Servers" Tab. Make note of the server information in the Outgoing Mail and Incoming Mail boxes. You may need this for future reference.

4) Change the server information in the Outgoing Mail and Incoming Mail boxes to: localhost and press the OK button.

Acceleration is now enabled for this particular account. Repeat steps 1 - 4 if you would like acceleration to occur on other Outlook Express Mail accounts. 

Disabling acceleration for Outlook Express Ver 4.X 

1) In Outlook Express, select Tools/Accounts

2) Select the "Mail" Tab and then the "Properties button.

3) Select the "Servers" Tab. 

4) Change the server names in the Outgoing Mail and Incoming Mail boxes to your Internet Mail Server provider. You may need to contact your Internet Mail Service Provider for this information. Press the OK button when done.

 

Acceleration for this particular Internet mail account is now disabled. Repeat steps 1 - 4 if you would like to disable acceleration for other Outlook Express Mail accounts. 

Enabling Microsoft Outlook Express Ver 5.x

1) In Outlook Express, select Tools/Accounts

 

2) Select the "Mail" Tab and then the "Properties button.

3) Select the "Servers" Tab. Make note of the server information in the Outgoing Mail and Incoming Mail boxes. You may need this for future reference.

4) Change the server information in the Outgoing Mail and Incoming Mail boxes to: localhost and press the OK button.

(Service Pack 2)

1) In Outlook 97, select Tools/Services

2) Highlight the particular Internet e-mail account for which you want to enable acceleration and press the "Properties" button.

3) Select the "Servers" Tab. Make note of the server information in the Outgoing Mail and Incoming Mail boxes. You may need this for future reference.

4) Change the server information in the Outgoing Mail and Incoming Mail boxes to: localhost and press the OK button.

(Service Pack 2)

1) In Outlook 97, select Tools/Services

2) Highlight the particular Internet e-mail account for which you want to disable acceleration and press the "Properties" button.

3) Select the "Servers" Tab. 

4) Change the server names in the Outgoing Mail and Incoming Mail boxes to your Internet Mail Server provider. You may need to contact your Internet Mail Service Provider for this information. Press the OK button when done.

Acceleration for this particular Internet mail account is now disabled. Repeat steps 1 - 4 if you would like to disable acceleration for other Outlook Mail accounts. 

Enabling Acceleration for Microsoft Outlook 98

1) In Outlook 98, select Tools/Accounts

2) Highlight the particular Internet e-mail account for which you want to enable acceleration and press the "Properties" button.
